Meet Aytia!
Ten years ago, I entered this work as a lobbyist advocating for improvements within Florida’s child welfare system. It was there that I began examining one of the most urgent threats facing young people in care, human trafficking!
That work became the beginning of a decade devoted to understanding trafficking from every angle I could. I learned from the field, from professionals, from research, from survivors I served and advocated alongside, and from my own lived experience. As my expertise grew, so did the reach of my work, from local advocacy and community education to professional trainings, media, consulting, and international conversations.
But the deeper I went, the more I recognized what was missing. We were teaching people how to recognize human trafficking without always teaching them how to understand the survivor.
That gap became central to the work of Aytia Tarpley Consulting.
Today, ATC exists to bring a perspective to the field that goes beyond what happened and explores what happens within. My mission is to help people see trafficking through the eyes of survivors, understand what traditional education can miss, and use that understanding to change the way we respond.
What began as advocacy has become my life’s work, and my hope is that its impact becomes a legacy that lives far beyond me and ATC.
